University of Guelph and Industry Partners Advance Hands-On HTST Pasteurization Training

Building technical knowledge and practical skills through academic and industry collaboration.
Following its inaugural session in May 2026, the University of Guelph will offer its next HTST Pasteurization Course on December 14–15, 2026, at the Guelph Food Innovation Centre.
Designed for dairy industry professionals, this specialized course brings together academic expertise, practical industry experience, and regulatory knowledge to strengthen participants' understanding of HTST pasteurization and its application in dairy processing operations.
Bridging academic knowledge and practical experience
Led by Dr. Douglas Goff of the University of Guelph, the course has been developed with contributions from industry partners, including Qualtech and Ecolab, and regulatory input from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFA).
As part of this collaboration, Qualtech contributed to the development of the course content, with one of its technical specialists participating as an instructor. The course also provides participants with hands-on experience using Qualtech's HTST pasteurization equipment installed at the University's pilot plant, helping bridge academic knowledge with practical, real-world applications.
This collaboration reflects the shared commitment of academia and industry to developing technical capabilities and supporting best practices in dairy processing.
From theory to practical application
The course covers essential aspects of HTST pasteurization, including:
Regulatory requirements and food safety
Pasteurization equipment and system operation
Cleaning and sanitation (CIP)
Process troubleshooting and best practices
Through small-group practical sessions, participants have the opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world applications, strengthening their technical knowledge and problem-solving skills.
Supporting the future of dairy processing
Continued education and knowledge sharing are essential to maintaining high standards of quality, food safety, and operational excellence throughout the dairy industry.
Qualtech is proud to support the University of Guelph in this initiative by sharing its technical knowledge, equipment, and industry experience. Working together to develop industry expertise is a meaningful way to support the people and organizations shaping the future of dairy processing.
